Project Info

We carried through world’s biggest open market project with Genc Celikler Insaat.
The Desert Bazaar, 20 km. north of capital Ashgabat was put into service by Turkmenistan President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov on 16 February 2011.
Approximately 7500 m2 of display units were successfully produced and mounted within the scope of joint venture between Prefabrik Yapi A.S. and Genc Celikler Inşaat. Rockwool insulation and A-1 class incombustible fiber cement coating material were used in the assembly of light steel buildings built in a closed space. Desert Bazaar built for approximately 152 million dollars by Genc Celikler Inşaat and considered as the most important commercial and historical symbol of the country was established on an area of 1 million square meters. There are 2056 shops of different sizes and over 5000 stalls in 16 sections in the bazaar with its new name of Golden Century Gundogar Bazaar. Shops constitute 220 thousand square meters and parking lots and roads 270 thousand square meters of the area in the giant commercial complex completed roughly in 32 months. A modern slaughter house, plenty of restaurants and cafeterias, banks, a lab, health center, pharmacy and police station as well as an administrative building, a hotel, two business centers and a giant parking lot were brought into service within the scope of this project which is expected to provide work for at least 7000 people. 21400 m2 slaughter house which will meet the whole meat demand of Ashgabat, was manufactured in Turkey. The slaughter house is the first of its ilk in Turkmenistan with a daily capacity of 500 cattle, 1000 sheep and goat and 1000 chicken.
There will be textile, electronic, carpet, gold, furniture, food, fruit-vegetable, meat-fish and agricultural products, kitchen and home appliances, white appliances and an automobile market in the bazaar which is a great attraction for foreign tourists. Cold storage rooms and special parking lots and warehouses for trucks were also constructed. Many Turkmens outside of Ashgabat and from neighboring states prefer Desert Bazaar for shopping because of its moderate prices compared to other shopping centers and bazaars and for its product range. The Desert Bazaar, heartland of commerce in Turkmenistan and a historical symbol with a past spanning 200 years, is the biggest commercial center of the region with 1 million visitors each month. The Desert Bazaar, where everything from handicrafts to electronics, hand-made carpets to food is up-for-sale, is preferred by visitors from neighboring countries as well as the local Turkmens is also a must-see for the tourists
The Desert Bazaar will be open 7 days a week in its new place, whereas it was only open for 2 days in its former place, that is the middle of the desert, with working hours left to anyone’s guess with the endless surprises of the desert climate and still hosting close to 1 million visitors a month.
